Johannesburg: Lion and Rhino Park

Hi everyone! I just got back from the Safari tour and omg, I'm so thrilled I have to blog immediately so that it's still fresh in my memory!

First up, my hotel room!

And to Ocean Basket for lunch!

***

Woke up to a bright and sunny Wednesday and had breakfast in the hotel first.

And the main activity of this whole Johannesburg work trip began..

Rhino & Lion Park!!!

Look at what greeted us even before we entered the park. A giraffe! Awww.

Cranes

Ostriches. The female is brown in colour while the male is in black.

Blue Wildebeest, also known as brindled gnu. Their horns are about 9-10cm long. As these few months are the mating season for the animals and hence, a lot of them have their kids strolling around them as well. Oh well, lucky us! :D

The male ostrich.

Bones. Yes, smelly bones. This is the vulture zone and these bones are thrown there to attract them. It smelt so bad and it had so much flies. Eww.

And lucky us get to see one! This is the cape vulture. It ate so much that it could not fly. It was trying so hard to fly when we were near it but to no avail. Hahaa, super cute!

Animal Creche!

I think this is the Secretary Bird. Weird and ugly. Meh.

Aww. Cheetah & black leopard. They are so bubbly and so adorable!!

It shocked us when it suddenly stood up. Look at our faces hahaha.

White cubs. Omg they are so adorable and they are only 3 months old. Probably the reason why they are so active and all when we were near them. It was biting my dress and running around, wanting us to chase them. And also due to their age, they are not being drugged (we guessed?) and thus explained their hyper-activeness? Nonetheless, my most favourite animal in the whole park!!

Whee~ And I carried a white lion. So cute please omg.

Feeding time. What a bonus! This is something that they only do during the weekends and this year, they will be having the lion, wild dog and cheetah feeding on Wednesday as well!

Rhino with its baby rhino.

And then we went to Wondercave. It is a natural wonder that is 2200 million years old. A cave deep within the earth that miners used to mine for limestone and rim stones.

Doesn't that statue on top looks like Mother Mary?

The largest limestone in the cave!

Waterbuck. Look at the white ring around their rump!

Impala. Only the males possess lyre shaped horns.

And that marks the end of my visit to the Rhino & Lino Park! The whole trip is really very exciting and interesting. It's nothing like the one we had in Singapore. The animals here are not caged and thus able to roam around. During the whole visit, we had to stay in the car as the animals were kinda wild and they have to hunt for their survival. What an eye opening experience! :D

To be honest, this is not what I expected of Johannesburg. It turned out that it is actually very pretty and slow paced. The people here speak very good English and they are all very friendly! I enjoyed my stay here with them very much! Would love to visit Sun City or some of the bigger nature reserves in South Africa!

Got to sleep before my flight back home for Chinese New Year. Ciao!
